I didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to this weekend, but it was a pretty good one even so!
Friday after work I finished my errands and ended up getting more at the craft store than I intended *blush*. They had holiday decor on sale and I was thinking about getting more glass ornaments and well…
They also had wall clocks so I now have a small clock hanging over my craft desk. The only surprise is that the second hand “ticks”, which I need to get used to. It’s a little on the loud side, so when we have company using the guest room I might disable it. Not sure why they felt the need to made an electric clock tick, but I digress.
I went over the tree and took down the faded pink and purple ornaments and replaced them with the silver and burgundy ornaments I picked up. I’m very happy with how the tree looks, and since I have more coupons I may go back and get more silver and bright red ones. The only thing I’m not sure about is the best way to dispose of the faded ornaments. I may also need an actual ornament box, which, of course, is also currently on sale… *whistles innocently*
When I got home Friday we started prepping the grill for turkey burgers when one of hubby’s friends from work B called; they were going out to dinner and then to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie after, so we had a spur-of-the-moment date night! We went to a steakhouse and I had a really, really yummy salad and stuffed mushrooms- yum! Considering that steak houses usually don’t have much for non-meat-eaters I was pretty pleased with the options. We finally met B’s fiancee and his sister, who was a lot of fun! The movie was great and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one. As a Holmes fan, I was pleased with how they incorporated Reichenbach Falls into the movie plot. I found one or two things a little forced, but overall nothing that kept me from enjoying the film.
Hubby and I commented that this was our second Friday night out in a row! It’s like we have an actual social life or something! I have no expectations for this Friday however- the computer game we’ve been anxiously waiting for comes out this week, so I’m sure we’ll be glued to our screens all weekend, heh.
Saturday we finally went to the home store so that we could get some long-planned housework jobs done on Sunday. We bought a wireless doorbell to replace our faulty wired one. We think we figured out what was wrong but there was no easy way to fix it without replacing the whole unit anyway. We decided to get a wireless instead so we can put the speaker wherever we want- in this case in the middle of the house so you can hear it from every room. It will take us a little time to get used to having a working doorbell however- the first person who came the door the two of us looked at each other like deer in headlights before we responded. (Of course, it was someone handing out religious flyers.)
We also *finally* bought a trimmer/edger. (The weedhacker, Vern, the weedhacker!) We chose a rechargeable version and it was a bit like trying to use a trimmer when your hair has gotten too long- you need a few passes cutting back each layer to get close. We did manage the sidewalk and we’ll do the driveway edges later this week. Apparently, I fail at edging- it was forcibly taken from me. *pout* I can do trimming though!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling terribly well over the weekend, so I didn’t get much else done: a few more ornaments and finished the book I was reading. I need to vacuum later this week, still, but I’m going to try and take things as easy as possible this week since I’ll have a full week to putter around the house during my vacation.
