Welcome to a brave new world! This is my first-ever blog post written using Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I am using this software at work to help compensate for the numbness in my hands.
I am still fine-tuning the software and training it to recognize how I speak. It’s still early stages but I’m a little disappointed- I was hoping that it would be a fully hands-free program and it’s not. I’m also still learning how to go back and make changes to text that I have already dictated.
While it is certainly saving my hands and I am making fewer typing mistakes, it is definitely a learning process. In addition, I’m not used to speaking for long periods of time outside of workshops. If I speak for too long my voice becomes hoarse croaky and the software has a harder time recognizing what I say. This may get easier as I get used to using the software and my voice is dusted off. If you see any odd typos or wordings you can blame the software ha ha.
Without a doubt, my dictated style and my writing style are very different. It will take some time for me to learn how to replicate my written voice with my spoken voice.
In other news, I saw the dentist for the last time yesterday. Hooray! I have a beautiful new mouthguard that will hopefully protect my teeth and help minimize headaches and jaw pain from my TMJ. I just wish it hadn’t been so darn expensive. I have a host of errands to do over the next few days that include lots of shopping. Not to mention, I still need to test drive for a new car. My wallet is already crying. However, I look forward to doing some new product reviews, which I haven’t done in some time. Once I have been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for a week or two I’ll put a full review here as well.
I did do a foolish thing on Tuesday, however. I finally finished up the yard work that I’ve been meaning to do ever since I was bitten by the fire ants. This time I avoided the ants but it really aggravated my back and hips. Then, I compounded the issue by forgetting to take a muscle relaxant. You’d think that sooner or later I’d learn. However, the yard looks great! Now, I just have to vacuum.*Sigh*
