Thinking back, the asthma attack on the plane should have told me that I was going to get sick no matter what this trip; attacks always weaken my immune system (despite or because of the steroid inhaler), so there really shouldn’t have been any surprise there. Ah, well. I am 90% better and I can breathe through my nose again! *deep inhale* Still a bit whistly and things still taste odd, but I’ll take what I can get at this point.
I had a delightful surprise this weekend! A while ago my lovely MIL offered me her old Singer sewing machine. It needed to be serviced, and between one thing and hundred others I mostly forgot. Well, she remembered and I now have a lovely, fully-functioning piece of art in my craft room! I am going to give it a week or so for the oil to soak in, then rub it down with a dry cloth. I have a few little projects that will be a good way for me to learn the machine and get back into machine sewing- I haven’t used a sewing machine since probably junior high; I’ve done everything by hand.
(Not my actual machine, but one very much like it!) It does have the electric pedal, which makes my life MUCH easier! I will probably recover the stool that came with it with some of my vintage fabric. I’m very excited to have access to a machine again, although I’ll have to move some things around in the room- right now the tv blocks me from extending the table leaf.
As a bonus surprise, and friend of MIL has a surplus couch that she is trying to find a home for. At point, she is so desperate she is not only giving it away free, but they have a truck and will deliver it! Well, how could we say no? It is a nice medium brown fabric (we like neutrals and casual contemporary) and really, how could we say no to expanding our couch collection? (This will bring us up to three couches, a loveseat, and a futon couch.) We do intend to pass along one or two of our existing couches when we rearrange furniture, probably after the porch is added.
Super-bonus surprise? We did not claim something on our tax return that we are eligible for, the IRS caught it and we’re getting back more than we expected, so the porch is essentially paid for. Hooray!
Really, so many good things going on right now- friends moving to new places and families expanding, it makes it hard to whine about the things that are making me cranky, so I’ll stuff them for now. Yay, good things!
