I had forgotten how very much I hate the dentist. Not the doctor as much, but the actual process. Admittedly, it has been four years since my last dental appointment (just before we got married) and I haven’t been in a rush- if I hadn’t lost a filling I wouldn’t have gone, and even then it took me almost a year to get around to it.
Thankfully, I was not overly punished for my heel-dragging. If fact, it was shallower than they expected, so it did not take as many steps to fill, so I paid less than expected, which was a nice change. Also, going to the dental office on campus saves me a tonne of time since I can just walk over and back and we were done a half hour earlier than planned.
That said, I really, really hate the dentist. My mouth has the remarkable knack for filtering the numbing agent everywhere except where it is most needed, so I almost always need two shots as I did today. This means that I will be numb for hours and hours. I also once bit myself when my mouth was numb and now am pathologically paranoid about doing it again, so I pretty much won’t open my mouth until the numbness is completely gone. I realised belatedly that this will make today’s meetings interesting at best. I have moved as much off my schedule as I can, but at least I have a good excuse to not pick up my phone for a few hours!
Anyway, I theoretically have an x-ray appointment in May and after that a full cleaning. I know it needs to be done, but it won’t keep me from dreading it. I hope everyone has a dentist-free, chatty day!
