So, I want/need to lose weight. Looking over my recent habits (or lack thereof) I decided to give myself four simple goals to follow for four weeks:
- increase my servings of water a day by at least one (I’ve been averaging six)
- weigh myself every morning (I’ve been spotty about this)
- don’t eat anything I don’t have nutritional information for (and thereby avoid the tempting baked goods in the coffee shop)
- and make a choice: chai or dew. If I have chai in the morning, then I need a calorie-free drink at lunch. If I skip my chai I can have a Mt. Dew.
This easily cuts my daily calorie intake by at least 150 calories (really more without the bagels and brownies). I now have cereal bars for mid-morning munching and Coke Zero for chai days. I am amazed that it is easier to give up Dew than chai. Then again, my office is about the same temperature as the Arctic tundra, so I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised.
Sounds pretty simple and straightforward, right? I’m not trying to make a lot of changes at once or start tracking every single thing I eat right away- that usually leads to quick burnout and laziness. But if I can just build on what I’m already doing, hopefully that will help. You’ll notice that there is no mention of exercise. I am getting back to researching the elliptical hubby and I want to buy and hopefully we can get that sooner rather than later, but mostly I am sticking to my PT for now. Shedding some pounds will take some of the load off my unhappy joints, and maybe I can work in some more activity.
And here I taunt myself with a picture of something I am not letting myself have- evil me!
