I have been intending for a while now to take more pictures of the house. Of course, once I got started I realised how much work we still have to do, but here is a partial tour of the nicer bits:
This is our dining room area. I think it was the first part of the house to come together. You can’t see the horrific brass lamp. Some day I’d like to replace all the brass light fixtures with something less… shiny. Under the table is a favourite cat napping spot. As you can see, Lucas approves. On the other side of the wall is the kitchen, and you can see a peek into the family room.
The china hutch was a timely gift from friends. We were very, very excited to finally unpack and display (and use!) our wedding china. On the middle shelf is an Art Deco tea set and aluminium wild duck tray and coaster set from friends and family, and the bottom shelf is the party punch bowl from family. All the pictures are a bit overexposed- darn Florida sunshine. My phone camera doesn’t take pretty pictures, but you get the idea.
The kitchen! Erm, is not clean. It’s really never totally clean. We could really do with just a bit more counter space. Some day we will have a kitchen table in the place I was standing when I took the picture and that issue will be solved. And all that booze on top of the refrigerator is just for show, I’m afraid. *sigh*
Now for some fun bits. For my online/blog friends, here are the places I spend most of my time:
My desk! From whence I blog, like the blogger I am. The chair is about 60 years old and was rescued from an old office building near where my dad used to work. They were just throwing out all the beautiful old office chairs so my dad saved me two. They are astoundingly comfortable. My desk itself, alas, has seen better days. I first assembled it back when I was eighteen- literally half a lifetime ago. I have hauled it to almost every place I have ever lived and it shows. It used to have a hutch, which I finally gave up when I became too much of a geek for just one monitor. The huge computer tower on the floor to the left to known as “The Beast”. My desk is much neater than usual at the moment (believe it or not).
My other desk. Our front room is where I contain my crafting and will eventually be a guest room as well. This room is mostly empty except for this nice, messy corner. This is the other old office chair, and my grandfather’s desk.
The bedroom! *wink, wink* The newly-painted headboard and nightstand look pretty awesome if I do say so myself (you can see the pre-painted version here). The raven toy is Edgar. I am currently trying to follow my physical therapist’s advice and sleep with a pillow to support my back better. I am meeting with partial success, at least.
The left side of the bed is mine, where I have my grandfather’s dresser. I have a fancy mirror that will be hung back over it when I get to it. We have NOTHING on any walls yet, because we are lazy slackers.
More pictures in the next post!
