So, my appointment with my rheumatologist went better today than I hoped. I have been frustrated lately- it seems every good day has a polar opposite horrible day, and I was worried that we were we going to be talking about my weight gain (thanks Prednisone!) and upping my Methotrexate. I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that my inflammation is down- WAY down! We talked about exercise and overdoing it and backlash. We talked about a reasonable exercise programme (15 minutes per day, swim or walk, work up to seven days a week. Then, increase by one minute per week. I think I can do that.)
Mostly, it was about setting realistic goals and taking things slowly and steadily. This was probably one of my better appointments with this doctor so far, and I’m glad it finally happened. We talked a bit about my back pain and physical therapy, which made me very happy. I’m not ready to go there yet, but now I have a script.
We also talked a bit more about cortisone injections for my back, and this was a little frustrating- I can call and stop in almost any time I need the shots, but after last time I know it can only happen if someone else drives. This is one of those things that I might be willing to spot for a cab if I’m in a really bad way. I also forgot to ask about massage, but I was planning to pursue that on my own anyway. It might also be included as part of the physical therapy- I need to find out more.
Mostly feeling good about life in general right now, although I’m sporting a blistering headache. This weekend is a cook out with hubby’s co-workers and the first Sunday gaming night in a few weeks. Also, a good friend popped up on IM out of the blue and we caught up a bit- we are both crazy busy but I do want to make the effort a little more often.
A few more interesting articles- I am trying to be more proactive in hunting down medical news:
